How to do you fix a kick drum that doesn’t have enough low end and just sounds weak?<\/h1>\n

Getting a kick drum to knock just right in your song can be a challenge. Sometimes, we find a drum sample that has exactly the right vibe and tone, but the low energy just isn’t there. Then what do we do?<\/p>\n

In a video on the Waves Plugins YouTube channel, producer and mixing\/mastering engineer Sean Divine shares some great tricks for getting punchy kick drums<\/a>, like using a Pultec style EQ and sidechaining the kick to a compressor on a bass track to carve space.<\/p>\n

But I find that these techniques only work SOME of the time – not always<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This is especially the case for when the kick drum just doesn’t have the right low-end punch or feel.<\/p>\n

And if you’ve ever tried to force a kick drum to have more punch by using a low frequency harmonic generator, low end enhancer, or some EQ, you know it can make the kick drum sound weird.<\/p>\n
