How seats work
A license runs on three computers at once. Each activation takes a seat; deactivating gives it back.
The plugin recognizes a computer by its name, its operating system, and a small ID file it saves. Any of these makes the same computer look like a new machine that needs a seat:
- renaming the computer;
- a major operating system upgrade;
- reinstalling the operating system, or deleting the plugin's settings folder.
Changing hardware on its own does not.
Signing out does not free a seat. Sign Out Of This Machine keeps the seat reserved for when you sign back in; only Deactivate gives it back. See Signing out vs. deactivating.
Trial seats cannot be freed or moved until the trial ends. Buy a license to move it.
Free a seat from the plugin
On any computer where the plugin is activated, open its license page and go to the Machines tab. Choose Deactivate next to the machine you no longer use, or Deactivate All Other Machines.
Free a seat from the portal
Use this when you cannot open the plugin on an activated computer.
- Open Manage licenses and sign in with the email you bought under. A 6-digit code arrives by email.
- Pick the license, then Deactivate next to the machine you no longer use.
- The seat is free immediately.
Activate the new computer
Open the plugin, choose Activate, and enter your key and email. If you see error 3103, every seat is still taken: free another one first.
If the old computer is gone
You do not need it. Deactivation happens on the server, so a machine that no longer exists can still be removed from the Machines tab or the portal.
